At any given time, almost one in five (18%) Americans suffer from a mental health condition, almost one in 10 (8.7%) have a serious alcohol or drug use problem and more than 3% struggle with both mental health and substance use issues. Unfortunately, the majority of people with these behavioral conditions never see a behavioral specialist for diagnosis or treatment. Rather, if their behavioral concerns are addressed at all, it’s usually because they are discovered as coexisting issues within a primary medical setting.
Left unaddressed, behavioral issues can interfere with responsiveness to medical interventions, thereby limiting clinical outcomes and cost-effectiveness. To better meet the needs of medical patients with coexisting mental health and/or substance use issues, medical practitioners are increasingly using brief behavioral screening procedures to identify behavioral issues so that appropriate care can be provided and overall treatment effectiveness enhanced.
To stay ahead of the industry trend toward behavioral screening of medical patients, GetMedi is developing a system that will allow its prescribers to electronically administer a variety of validated, brief and automatically scored screening questionnaires to their patients. To ensure that this system is optimally tailored to your and your patients’ needs, we invite you to participate in a brief survey about this critical first step toward better identifying and meeting medical patients’ behavioral needs. Whether you are a clinician who directly provides care or an administrator who oversees the delivery of medical services, your views would be welcomed.
Thank you in advance for your time.
